The posture for Day 5 of April Intentions was Tree Pose or Vrksasana (Tadasana). My intention for the day’s practice was to relax.

It is another appropriate asana for me. This posture helps me remember to stay grounded while at the same time staying open and lifted. I root the foot of my standing leg, spreading my toes, equally distributing my weight. Then, on the inhale I lift out of my waist, opening my chest, relaxing my shoulders, reaching the crown of my head to the ceiling. On the exhale I work on slowly easing my knee down, opening up my hip into the gentle stretch.

The more I relax, the taller I get and the more grounded I become. I really needed that this morning. For a few breaths I almost forgot that I was missing my favorite Saturday morning class so my fresh ink can heal out of the heat.

Almost.
